HiRISE Opportunity

Monday, October 9th, 2006

The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took the following photo of Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity on 10/3/2006 from under miles above in orbit. This image shows you how detailed the MRO photos will be. To quote the article:

The range to the target site was 269 km (168 miles). At this distance the image scale is 27 cm/pixel (with 1 x 1 binning) so objects ~81 cm across are resolved.

CBS: The Early Show was giving away a trip to Ireland here in Raleigh, NC and wanted Irish music and dance at the giveaway. Members of Baile Daire along with dancers from the Danny Tighe School of Irish Dance set the mood as the prize was awarded. Unfortunately, we are not seen on TV but you can hear our music on the video clip. They did film a second dance that may show up on the updated clip with shots from the weekend in Ireland. So, check out the clip and listen for our music.
