Directions to some common dance locations in the Triangle

Disclaimer: I hope these directions help, but I take no responsibility if you get lost. I highly recommend the use of a map.

Bond Park Senior Center (Cary)

The Bond Park Senior Center is located within Bond Park in Cary. Bond Park is located at 801 High House Road between Cary Parkway and Northwest Maynard Road. To get directions, click on here.

The Glenwood Elementary School (Chapel Hill, NC)

The Glenwood School is on Prestwick Rd, behind the Harris-Teeter at Gleenwood Squre shopping center on highway 54.

1. From I-40, take the highway 54/Chapel Hill exit (#273); turn toward Chapel Hill.
2. Proceed roughly (very roughly!) 5 miles on highway 54. Watch for the stop light at Aurora (a restaurant) on the left. At the next stop light, turn left onto Hamilton Rd. (If you pass under a bridge, you've just passed it.)
3. Go to the stop sign at the end of the road, and turn right onto Prestwick Rd.
4. Glenwood School will be on the left at the end of Prestwick Rd.

You park in front of the main building, but the dance is in the building behind that. You have to go straight through the main building, or around the right end if the main doors are locked, to get to it.

Pleasant Green Community Center (Orange County, NC)

The Pleasant Green Community Center is on Pleasant Green Community Rd., in Orange County, somewhere between Hillsborough and Durham (north of I-85).

From Raleigh on I-40:

1. Take the Durham Freeway (highway 147) "North" to exit 16A (onto 15-501 North).
2. Immediately exit to the Hillsborough Rd exit (you won't even get off the 147 exit ramp!)
3. Turn left onto Hillsborough Rd and travel to the second traffic light.
4. Turn right on Cole Mill Rd. and travel 4.5 miles to the stop sign.
5. Turn right on Pleasant Green Rd. and travel 0.3 miles.
6. Take first right on Pleasant Green Community Rd. (SR 1517).
7. Community Center is second building on the left.

1. Follow above steps through number 3
2. Turn on right on Cole Mill Rd. and travel for 1.0 mile after crossing the Eno River.
3. Turn right onto (unpaved) Pleasant Green Community Rd. (SR 1517).
4. Community Center is first building on the right.

From Hillsborough:

1. Take highway 70 east to Pleasant Green Rd.
2. Turn north on Pleasant Green Rd. and travel 2.5 miles.
3. Turn right on Pleasant Green Community Rd. (SR 1517).
4. Community Center is second building on the left.

From Chapel Hill:

There's no obvious "best" route from Chapel Hill.

For many, you may just want to take 15-501 N. to Durham, take the Hillsborough Rd. exit, and continue as above.

If you don't live on the Durham side of Chapel Hill, here are some different ways to get to the Mt. Hermon Church Rd/US 70 intersection. Mt. Hermon Church Rd becomes Pleasant Green Rd. near there.

• Take NC 86 to New Hope Church Road, turn right and go to Old NC 10, turn right and go to Mt. Hermon Church Road, turn left at the church and go under I-85 to the stop light at Hwy. 70. Go straight across onto Pleasant Green Rd. Or,
• Friends School Road to Murphey School Road, turn right and go to Mt. Hermon Church Road, turn left and go to the same light at Hwy. 70. Or,
• North-east Chapel Hillians or south-west Durhamites might try Cornwallis, as it becomes Mt. Hermon Church Road and meets up with Hwy. 70 at the light. Or,
• Alternatively, take NC 751 North to US70 and turn left going to the same stop light where Mt. Hermon Church Road crosses US70 and becomes Pleasant Green Rd. to the right.

From Center of Chapel Hill

1. Take NC 86 to Mt. Sinai Rd. Turn right.
2. Travel 1.6 miles to University Station Rd., turn left.
3. Go to end of US 70, turn right.
4. First traffic light is Pleasent Green Rd.

The Vintage Theatre (Winston-Salem, NC)

The Vintage Theatre in Winston-Salem is at the intersection of Main and Vintage. From east of Winston-Salem:

1. Take I-40 West toward Winston-Salem to exit 193C (Silas Creek Pkway).
2. Turn right at light at end of ramp.
3. Turn left at light onto Main St.
4. Turn left onto Vintage Ave (1/2 mile).
5. Vintage Theatre is immediately on the right.

Horton Middle School (Pittsboro, NC)

The Horton Middle School is located on 15-501 in Pittsboro, just south of its intersection with 64.

From most places (except Moncure), take 64 or 15-501 to the center of Pittsboro, easily identified by the traffic circle with a court house in the middle of it. Go south on 15-501 from the court house. The school is about one half mile on the left. The dance is in the gym, which is at the back right corner of the school buildings.

From Moncure, take the Pittsboro-Moncure Road from US 1 to 15-501. Turn right on 15-501. The school is about one half mile on your right.

From the south via 15-501, look for the school just after you pass the Pittsboro-Moncure Road intersection.

Woollen Gym (Chapel Hill, NC)

The Woollen Gymnasium in Chapel Hill is on South Rd, often called Raleigh Rd, on the UNC-CH campus.

1. From I-40, take the Highway 54 exit (#273) west into Chapel Hill, staying on business 54 when the 54 bypass turns off.
2. Up a long hill from the 54 bypass exit is a traffic light at the intersection with Cameron Rd. Proceed straight through that intersection.
3. The next traffic light is the intersection with Raleigh Street. Find parking somewhere, walk back to this intersection, and continue with the directions below.

The dance is held in what is officially room 026 of Woollen Gym. The room is actually in the old Women's Gym, which abuts Woollen but has no direct connection. Therefore, do NOT enter Woollen Gym in hopes of finding the dance.

1. From the traffic light at the intersection of Raleigh STREET and NC 54 business, which is officially South Road but called by many Raleigh ROAD, walk south between Woollen Gym on the left & Fetzer Gym on right.
2. Pass under the walkway between the gyms
3. Continue beyond four or five parking spaces on the left.
4. Turn left down a flight of steps, walk along the left side of the (empty) swimming pool, and turn left up a flight of shallow steps.
5. Enter the building on the left through the very first door, down a few steps.
6. You will be in the dance hall.

McDougle Middle School Gymnasium (Carrboro, NC)

If coming from Carrboro on Main St. or the 54 bypass, you will pass the post office on your right, then Carrboro Plaza on your left. Turn right at the traffic light onto Old Fayetteville Rd. Go about 1/2 block; the school is on the right.

If coming into Carrboro from the north on Hwy 54, Old Fayetteville Rd is the first light (just before 54 splits into the bypass and Main St.) Turn left; the school is about 1/2 block on the right.
